Fix connection problems

Most connection problems are one of four things: different networks, a missing permission, WorkPane Host not running, or a VPN that isn't up. Work the list in order; each step says what you should see.

Before you start

Have both devices in front of you. Each step takes about thirty seconds.

1 · Reconnecting? Give it a moment

If a stream drops, WorkPane retries on its own and the last frame stays put; your window comes right back. If the reconnecting banner has been up for more than a minute, keep going.

2 · Same network?

Both devices on the same Wi-Fi. Guest and hotel networks often isolate devices from each other; a personal hotspot is a quick way to test.

3 · Is WorkPane Host running?

Look for the WorkPane mark in the Mac's menu bar: outline means waiting, filled means connected. If it isn't there, launch WorkPane Host; a paired iPad reconnects on its own.

4 · Permissions all green?

Open the Setup Guide from the menu bar. Every step should show a green checkmark; grant anything missing and follow the restart note if one appears.

5 · Restart WorkPane Host

Quit it from the menu bar panel and open it again. The iPad notices and reconnects with its stored pairing.

6 · Away from home?

Automatic discovery is local-network only. Check that your VPN app shows both devices online, then use Connect by Address with the Mac's VPN address. Remote access guide →

If it didn't work

During the beta, send feedback through TestFlight on your iPad, or write to contact@workpane.co; say which step the connection stops at.
